Growing up, tattoos seemed reserved for a world outside mine, a world of rebellion and self-expression. While I always held art close, practicality and a desire for "responsible" pursuits kept me from exploring certain avenues, like tattooing.
But life has a funny way of pushing us towards unexpected paths. When a job change and a global lockdown forced a re-evaluation, my supportive family saw this as my opportunity. “Perfect! Now you can try tattooing!”.
While traditional apprenticeships weren't an option, and juggling motherhood with young twins added another layer of complexity, I decided to take the leap. With a little trepidation and a whole lot of curiosity, I gave myself my first tattoo. It wasn't a masterpiece but sparked a deep love for the artistry and connection inherent in the process.
It wasn't just about the technical skill of applying ink to skin; it was about the shared human experience and the opportunity to tell stories and leave lasting impressions. The fear that lingered from a younger version of myself made my hands shake during the process, but a sense of accomplishment and self-discovery washed over me as I finished. This wasn't just a tattoo. It was a symbol of embracing possibility, finding strength within myself, and igniting a passion I never knew existed.
This unexpected path has become my personal adventure, a rebellion against routine, and a gateway to a vibrant artistic community. It's given me purpose, connection, and a career full of potential. The journey of exploration continues, pushing me to expand my skills and delve deeper into this amazing art form. The woman I am today might not have been the one I expected, but she's a whole lot stronger, bolder, and ready to share her story, one tattoo at a time.
